Back in July 2014, I needed a project. Not just to practice and hone my photography skills, but also on a personal level I simply needed a break from the life I was in. Using photography as my reasoning for doing so, I needed something grand to really sink my photographic teeth into. I had always had a passion for Americana… the classic cars, diners and motels, the open road. Most importantly, I wanted an adventure while I was still young and brave enough to take one.
The idea was simple – drive Route 66 with a ‘small’ detour to the Salt Flats at Bonneville.
I hired a Mustang and hit the open road, driving from Chicago all the way to Santa Monica. My one condition to myself was simple – drive as much of the original Route 66 as possible, as lots of it has been replaced and renewed over the years, bypassing many of the old attractions on route.
